Crushing bits, and exploding subwoofers in the process. Love it or hate it, the music is evolving. Yes, Luda recorded with Biebs and yes, Britney & Rusko are BBF’s. But for a de-poppified experience in this burgeoning beat-centric culture you’d be making the right decision by supporting locally.
Now that Spring is finally here (or is it?), May’s shaping up to be a stellar month for Bassheads. Whether you prefer your Hip-Hop with a bit of Electronic, or Electronic with a bit of Hip-Hop… it’s time to break out your finest Timbo Boots / Glow Necklace ensemble and hit the pavement!

1) MAGIC 8BALL TOUR: GLK | KID SISTER | ATRAK (5/5 @ The Mid)
Your favorite DJ who doesn’t really DJ hits The Mid along with the Sonny & Cher of the party-rap scene, A-Trak and Chicago Native, Kid Sister. Expect something weird and wonderful to go down.

2) FACE MELT: AUBURN | ABYSS | DJ C (5/27 @ Darkroom)
Ground Lift Media hosts this monthly Hip-Hop / Glitch / Bass-minded monthly at Darkroom. The upstart duo of Eliot Lipp & vyle, collectively known as Auburn, headline in May. Bring an extra face.

3) PUSH BEATS: SAMIYAM | JEREMIAH JAE (5/28 @ Double Door)
Celebrating their one year anniversary, the Push Beats crew takes over Double Door with a double dose of Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder collective artists: Samiyam & Jeremiah Jae. Hit me 2x.

4) VADIM & THE ELECTRIC | DR. ISRAEL | RM JOINT (5/21 @ Kinetic Playground)
My all time fav Vadim cut is “Terrorist,” but his new group The Electric is a different thing completely. Chi-rapper & The Electric crew member Pugs Atomz returns home for this show after a short stint abroad.

5) MIKE RELM | BBU | YOUNG JOSH | DEMCHUK (4/29 @ The Mid)
Last up, a late April show for good measure. The pioneer of the now vogue VJ/DJ game, Mike Relm stops by The Mid for what’s sure to be a visceral experience that’ll make you punch small children.
