As fans of their 1999 album Blackout!, when news dropped that Method Man & Redman were headlining the The Smoker’s Club Fall 2014 tour, the GLM office was quite literally buzzing. The 15th anniversary of their debut album passed just recently and it still holds up as a late golden era, major label classic. Along with turns by RZA and Rockwilder, Erick Sermon handled a majority of the production. But notably this album marked an evolution in Sermon’s style from the industrial G-Funk of the later EPMD / early Redman releases into less boombastic soundscape that somehow still managed to convey his darker inclinations. Spend some time with the full album stream below, and try to remember where you were 15 years ago.
And be sure to catch Meth & Red along with an assorted batch of 420-friendly artists including B-Real (of Cypress Hill), Berner (Taylor Gang), and up-and-comer from Chicago, Mick Jenkins (CMG) later this month at Concord Music Hall. Presales are available now here.
