Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela Mpeach‘s experimental music is reflective of an emerging movement of artists influenced by their individual cultural roots as well as their Internet-Age existence. As a multidisciplinary performer her creations intersect musical and visual art, where each side exists symbiotically. She explains “I use visuals just like a musical instrument. They are created as part of the composition. They don’t necessarily have a particular storyline but are choreographed to the structure and rhythmical patterns of the songs.” Continue reading “Mpeach – Malania [New Video] + CumbiaSazo This Weekend!” »
Chicago’s Lamon Manuel links with TK brethren Skech185 and Houston producer ATD (Analog(ue) Tape Dispenser) on “Skies” the first offering off of his upcoming project Music To Feel Like Shit To. With a blistering drum beat and haunting choir sample as the backdrop, Lamon and Skech trade bars while the punches fly in a visual that finds us privy to an evening in an underground women’s fight club (Word to Samantha Wakefield). An excellent introduction for what’s to come, we can’t wait to feel like shit listening to the full album!
Hot on the heels of the Soul Train Celebration, we’re back with the first edition of our regular boogie event in the same vein: Night Fever. Thanks to everyone who came out for the launch and made it a success. If you didn’t make out, don’t fret; we’ll be back again with the funk on April 24th. Until then, peep the footage..
SkighMOB‘s SolarFive hits us with the latest drop from his January project 88 Soul, a visual for the heat rock “Amethyst.” Directed by Chicago creative collective 119, the moody banger gets the heist treatment. Put on your ski mask and come along for the ride.
As we prepare for the final stages of this weekend’s March Madness battles at Rap Karaoke, let’s take a quick look back at Round 1. Eight of Chicago’s finest amateur MCs and karaoke regulars took the stage to vie for the crown and all #THEGLORY. ‘A’ games were most definitely in full effect and each battle was a close call. But judge for yourself with the video / pic sets below. The champ will be crowned this Saturday 3/21 at Jerry’s so come by on the early side and support! More info here.
Young Heavy Souls strikes again, this time with label head Matt Black checking into the action with his debut instrumental album Peace To Mateo. The Detroit representer pulls no punches while delivering a delightfully diverse collection of sounds over the course of 10 tracks. He brings it live as well, so be sure to catch him March 30th when he touches down at Rodan.
LA producer Nosaj Thing let’s loose the lead single, “Cold Stares,” off of his freshly announced LP Fated and he’s brought Chance The Rapper and The O’My’s vocalist Maceo Haymes along for the ride. Beautiful and haunting, safe to say we look forward to hunkering down and hearing the whole project! Be on the look out for the full release of Fated May 5.
