DRE DAY 2016 Chicago || 8th Annual Celebration of Dr. Dre & His Legacy

Once again it’s on! Our annual celebration of Dr. Dre and his legacy returns to Chicago’s Double Door for it’s 8th year. What began as one-off party in Minneapolis, it has since grown to include over a dozen major North American cities, with a roster of renowned DJs, Producers, and Artists uniting each year, all for the love of Dre. Discount presales are available NOW!

As our featured headliner for 2016, we’re excited to present Makaya McCraven + The Chronic. The idea of a session band of ‘Dre Day Players’ has floated around for awhile, but this year Makaya agreed make it a reality. If you’re unfamiliar with his work, as an accomplished Drummer / Producer his heady blend of Soul Jazz, Funk, and Hip-Hop fits perfectly within the smokey confines of Dr.Dre’s catalog.

Co-headlining is the DJ / Turntablist duo of Big Once and Trentino, collectively known as B.O.A.T.. As individuals they’re both accomplished artists having each won the Red Bull Thre3style US Titles. & Joining us once again for the Nate Dogg tribute is J.Arthur (of The WHOevers) and in the Door. No3 section of the venue, we’ll be transforming the space into a special West Coast / G-Funk edition of Original Rap Karaoke.

And as a bonus for the 1st 100 arrivals, we’re giving away exclusive souvenir Dre tees printed on-the-spot by Teetsy.com.

Photos + On-Stage Footage from last year’s throwdown!

Red Bull Sound Select Chicago Returns! Feat. Too $hort [New Event / Music]

Too $hort has always been a lot more intelligent and dynamic than the misogynistic stereotypes that confine him. One conversation with him makes this clear. Don’t get it twisted though; Todd Shaw is indeed a player and purveyor of East Oakland pimp culture. It’s important to remember that at least three generations have grown up on Too $hort’s music. 30 years into his music career, his catalogue isn’t often critiqued, as it’s woven into the very fabric of the Bay Area hip-hop.

As this month’s Red Bull Sound Select headliner, $horty is joined by local Chicago MC Martin $ky and recent Chi-transplant / STL native Smino. Co-presented & curated by Fake Shore Drive. Throwback with the video below & if you’re in the area next week 1/21 be sure to RSVP here for discount entry now!
