Undoubtedly pioneering their retro-influenced sound “in the mid-aughts, The Cool Kids (Chuck Inglish and Sir Michael Rocks) took the country by storm, garnering significant press and sold out crowds. After a time apart, the group has reunited for the first time in years and this Sound Select show will be the first Chicago show from the duo in five years.
Joining The Cool Kids will be Detroit’s Payroll Giovanni of the heralded Doughboyz Cashout who’s Big Bossin’ Vol. 1 was recently given strong endorsements from Pitchfork and Complex, among others. Rounding out the night will be Femdot, a buzzing Chicago rapper who’s starting to get some national looks and shouldn’t be missed.
Mick Jenkins, is an American hip-hop recording artist born in Huntsville, Alabama but raised on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. Jenkins is a member of Free Nation, a hip-hop group that promotes creative thought without accepting narrow views imposed by the powers that be.
Mark your calendars Red Bull Sound Select and Fake Shore Drive pair up again and return to Chicago’s Double Door August 25. This time around they bringing A$AP Rocky’s latest protégé, Playboi Carti aka Cash Carti. He’s the internet sensation behind Soundcloud bangers “Broke Boi” and “Fetti“.
Also on the bill are Twin Citie artist, Finding Novyon and Chicago’s Nina Tech.
Red Bull Sound Select is an artist development program that works with the best curators in local music scenes to bring fans unique shows. We are proud to announce on July 7th at Double Door Open Mike Eagle will headline our latest installment. Red Bull Sound Select acts Saba and the debut of Air Credits, the new project from The Hood Internet and ShowYouSuck will also perform in support.
At the risk of sounding too confident, we’re willing to put this all-Chicago lineup sonically against any of the shows you’ll see this year or next. Open Mike Eagle has skewed traditional rhymes to reflect his “art rap” style, combining that with a furious live show. Saba is coming off of his guest role on Chance the Rapper’s “Angels” as well as his own stellar resume. Not to be outdone, both The Hood Internet and ShowYouSuck can stand on their own up there on stage, but their debut together? SHEESH. This is your chance to catch them on a “I saw them before they broke big” level.
Wu-tang Clan affiliate Killah Priest returns to Chicago to perform live with virtuoso producer Bryan Ford and his full band, including Chicago hip hop luminaries Pugs Atomz and Awdazcate, for the album release party celebrating the highly acclaimed release FOR THE FUTURE OF HIP HOP out now on Revolutonary Musichttp://revolutionarymusic.com/
We’re also excited to have DJ Toltech, Chicago’s reigning DMC champion opening and closing the night. Toltech recently made it to the final 4 in the DMC battle for U.S. Supremacy in Los Angeles. Toltech is 2016 and 2015 DMC US Finalist, 2014 DMC Team USA (CTA), and the 2015 Battle Ave Cut2Cut Champ (Chicago)
Red Bull Sound Select is back for June and this time they’re pulling out all the stops. They’re bringing out Ottawa’s noise rock outfit METZ. They’ve been cranking out solid tunes since their Sub Pop debut in 2012. And if you missed out on last year’s heralded album “II” go check it out. It is well worth your time.
Also joining the bill and not to be outdone are Atlanta’s Muuy Biien and Brett Naucke. They’re on a “I saw them before they broke big” level.
Summer is almost here & Red Bull Sound Select is proud to announce the May installment headlined by Soulja Boy! Join us May 19th at Double Door with supporting acts Bobby Raps (Minneapolis) and Chicago’s Warhol.SS performing. The show is 18+, and as always an RSVP gets you $3 entry! –> http://win.gs/MayChi
Electronic has always found its way into other genres of music. But this is far more than the average dubstep remix of the latest top 40 smash hit. Grammy nominated jazz quintet Kneebody and LA “Beat Scene” founding father Daedelus have come together officially for their debut collaboration album; Kneedelus. The lead single, “Drum Battle” lives up to its title with frenetic percussion shifting rhythmic patterns. A living proof of the theory of technological singularity, this track along with nine others blend the essence of organic free-form jazz and modern electronic production sensibilities. If you’re a fan of Brainfeeder‘s game-changing release by Thundercat and Kamasi Washington, then be prepared this November 27th for another must-have album for your archives.
